I’ve always favored tradition and lore over slashing and gore (unintentional rhyme!), so I have to give it up to Dracula: Prince of Darkness. I remember vividly sneaking downstairs and turning down the volume so my parents wouldn’t catch me watching a scary movie right before bed (which is understandable, I was 7). However, what came later intrigued me.
Though the Dracula character did not utter a word, I was enthralled. His menacing presence, magnetism, and all-around swag softened the jump scares for me. At that point, I knew I unlocked a new passion — vampire movies, especially the ones featuring the Count himself. I’ve shown you mine, now you show me yours; what was your gateway horror movie?
