There’s nothing as satisfying as a series finale that just hits the right spot. It doesn’t even have to answer all the questions at the end, just give the audience enough closure to move on to the next show. With that in mind, it’ll have to be NBC’s The Good Place for me. Across the span of four seasons, the show explored a premise that naturally makes people uncomfortable… death. First, I love how they explored complex philosophical theories/questions about morality, redemption, and life after death. The best part is that they softened the blow with just the right amount of humor.
By the time we got to the end of the road, the premise had expanded way beyond what anyone could imagine. The characters were so fleshed out, yet they still retained that je ne sais quoi that made them inherently human. What took the cap is how the writers did a bang-up job tying all the loose ends. Call it what you want to call it, in my books that’s just good TV. What about you? Do you have a favorite series finale that left a lasting impression?
Ready for a feel-good afterlife journey that sticks the landing? All four seasons of The Good Place are now streaming on Netflix.
