Handsdown, it’ll have to be the 2005 movie Aeon Flux and I think it’s sort of a general consensus on this one. Coming off the back of an animated series that was simply phenomenal, the movie was a disaster and irredeemable outside the soundtrack. Overall, it failed so badly at capturing that “trippy and oversexualized” nature of animated series that made it so endearing. What do we poke holes in first? Is it the gaping plot holes that you could drive a truck through or the painfully predictable ending? Or how about the fact that even Charlize Theron, with all her immense talent, couldn’t salvage this cinematic wreck? It was a perfect storm of disappointment.
We’re in 2025 now, and hopefully that means there’s more tech and innovation available to recreate a version of Aeon Flux that doesn’t burn the eyes of true fans. Imagine a reboot that finally does justice to the source material, bringing back that edgy, surreal energy while giving it a modern upgrade. Maybe I’m being a little too passionate, but hey, isn’t that what being a fan is all about? Here’s hoping my rant sparks a fire in your own response.
