It’s a bit of a hidden gem, but since the day I watched the series Still Game, I have found myself going back for comfort every now and then. I find the banter brilliant, wholesome, and somehow realistic while being as hilarious as possible. What really resonates with me is the show’s take on old age, death, loneliness, and the importance of human connection/community— things that must come for us all. It manages to shed a light on all this and more without making them seem too dire.
Then there’s Jack and Victor, their characters are so cleverly crafted, yet come off as real as me and you. It’s certainly a niche comedy but once you dive into it and discover that it’s your thing, the Glaswegian humor is incredibly addictive. While it’s not particularly a guilty pleasure in the sense that it’s not bad (at all), I have shamelessly watched all nine seasons at least 10 times… a year. Do you have a show or movie that simply takes you “there” where comfort meets pure joy?
If what you’re on the market for is some dry humor, political incorrectness, and everything in between, stream Still Game on Netflix.
