After Season 3 put Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) front and center, Bridgerton is finally shining the spotlight on the sibling it skipped. Season 4 is slated to lean into Benedict’s season, and in a weird but satisfying way, Netflix has been crystal clear about what that means. Based on the eponymous historical novel by Julia Quinn, the show has adapted three (soon to be four) books from the eight-book series, diving headfirst into the siblings’ complicated love lives.
Between all the casting announcements, plot clues dropped in the Season 3 finale, and a confirmed release schedule, there’s enough out there to ensure that viewers know what the next season will look like. Now, it’s worth noting that this new season is far from some sort of reset or side mission. In fact, Season 4 is set to move the larger Bridgerton plot forward against the backdrop of another hot and heavy romance.
Yes, ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Is Finally About Benedict

Back in July 2024, Netflix confirmed that Season 4 would be telling us Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) story. Avid readers of the book know that his story, An Offer From a Gentleman, was originally the third in Quinn’s book order. However, the show swapped it out for Colin and Penelope’s story instead. The studio’s official summary makes it clear where Benedict’s is heading. The second out of four boys, and with two married brothers flanking him, he wants to do a little settling down of his own. It’s pretty much in line with the way the show has portrayed him. That fly on the wall presence, drifting between art, parties, and half-formed ideas about who he could become.
By the end of Season 3, the stage was set for his proposed future. There were a handful of mentions of some upcoming masquerade ball, which is the very thing that kicks off Benedict’s love story in the books. Bridgerton showrunner, writer, and executive producer Jess Brownell has mentioned that it’s important to show Benedict fully living before marching down the aisle. It goes without saying that Season 4 is where the transition happens.

Sophie Baek Shakes Up the Usual ‘Bridgerton’ Format

Yerin Ha has been cast as Benedict’s love interest, Sophie Baek. Needless to say, a bit of creative liberty was taken with the character’s surname to reflect her Korean heritage. In the book, her name is Beckett. The twist here is that Sophie is not part of high society. In fact, she works as a maid in the household of Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung) and her daughters.
There’s no doubt that the gap between classes is the source of most of the conflict this season. Their meet-cute is practically out of a fairytale (Cinderella), with Benedict crossing paths with Sophie at a masquerade ball where she’s in disguise. He falls for her, and then spends the season trying to reconcile that connection with the rigid rules of the ton.
Ha has spoken openly about how Sophie’s obstacles are practically melded into the character. Not only does she have to navigate class barriers, but there’s also social invisibility and the risk of getting caught in the mix. This one element makes this season unique.
New Characters Will Drive the Conflict, With a Few Faces That Still Matter in the Mix

On account of Sophie’s whole situation, Season 4 introduces three new key characters. As mentioned earlier, there’s Katie Leung’s Lady Araminta Gun, who steps into the shoes of a twice-widowed social climber with two daughters she’s desperate to get married off. In true wicked step-mother style, she’s blunt, crafty, and a direct obstacle to any hope of Sophie and Benedict’s romance.
Rosamund Li, played by Michelle Mao, is Araminta’s eldest daughter. She has eyes for Benedict and feels incredibly entitled to his last name. Then there’s Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei, the younger sister; she’s kinder, but that also means she’s ignored by her mother. This new lineup feels like a pressure cooker, intensifying the drama from every angle.
For the most part, Sophie has to survive her employer while Benedict is not-so-subtly nudged toward a “proper match” under the watchful eye of the ton. As far as the more familiar faces go, it’s clear that Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton will return as Penelope and Colin, now married. Likewise, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley are also back as Anthony and Kate. Also joining the lineup are Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), and the rest of the Bridgerton clan, who will be well-rooted in the story, even though the season isn’t about them.
When Is ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Hitting the Screens?
Bridgerton Season 4 premieres in two parts: the first drops on January 29, 2026, and the second follows on February 26. Each part contains four episodes. Netflix has already renewed the series through Season 6, so fans can breathe easy since this isn’t a make-or-break moment. Nevertheless, Season 4 is bent on expanding what Bridgerton can do, both romantically and socially, without losing the spark that keeps people glued to their screens.
