‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Returning to the Ton?

After the switcheroo Shonandaland pulled on fans with Bridgerton Season 3, it’s a welcome relief that Season 4 is putting the spotlight where fans have been waiting for it to land: on Benedict Bridgerton. It’s been three entertaining yet gruelling seasons of watching him toy with the idea of love without fully committing, but it’s safe to say that he’s done sowing his proverbial wild oats. In the wake of the January 29th release, Netflix has confirmed a mix of returning favorites as well as some long-awaited character payoffs and new cast additions ready to rattle the Ton in the most entertaining way possible.

While major spoilers are under lock and key until D-day, the cast paints quite a vivid story for anyone who’s been following closely since it first hit the screens. Bridgerton Season 4 digs into the class divide that the show has prodded at here and there. It’s a depiction of what happens when fairy tales clash with reality. With that in mind, here’s a detailed breakdown of who’s returning, who’s new, and why each character is as important as the next.

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson)

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) in Bridgerton Season 4

While he’s been present since the first season, this is perhaps the first time we see Benedict Bridgerton step out of the shadows and into the centre of the story. The second Bridgerton son has spent previous seasons drifting between art, pleasure, and quiet dissatisfaction, largely because he’s protected by wealth but unsure how to use it. However, Season 4 forces him to contend with pressures his siblings never faced. He faces a huge class divide as well as the cost of love when a fairytale slams into a brick wall.

Luke Thompson has steadily built an onstage career before venturing into TV. He has appeared in films such as Dunkirk and Making Noise Quietly, and has starred in other Netflix series, including Kiss Me First and Transatlantic. All in all, Bridgerton remains his most prominent role to date.

Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha)

Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) in Bridgerton Season 4

Sophie Baek enters the Ton twice over: first as a mysterious figure at a masquerade ball, and later as a maid working inside the Bridgerton household. Though she forms quite the taboo connection with Benedict, her position leaves her vulnerable to everything from dismissal to good old-fashioned exploitation. It’s safe to say she gives us a kind of female love interest we haven’t quite seen on the Bridgerton screen.

Stepping into the role is Yerin Ha, a NIDA-trained Australian-Korean actor, with growing recognition across television. She has appeared in Halo, Bad Behaviour, and Netflix’s The Survivors. Her casting as Sophie Baek is nothing short of a major career step.

Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung)

Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung) in Bridgerton Season 4

From all the snippets so far, Lady Araminta Gun arrives with one goal: secure a future for her daughters by any means necessary. She’s not just winging it either; she has a lot more knowledge on the marriage mart than most and refuses to be bashful about her ambition. In season 4, she’s a pressure cooker of sorts that transforms courtship into some sort of metaphorical blood sport.

Playing the role is Katie Leung, widely recognised for her depiction of Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films. Since then, she has built a strong television career with roles in The Nest, Strangers, Arcane, and Annika.

Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao)

Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) in Bridgerton Season 4

Rosamund Li is Lady Araminta’s eldest daughter and Sophie’s most direct rival as far as Benedict’s affections are concerned. She takes a feather out of her mother’s cap, coming across as focused, well-put-together, and sees marriage as a strategy as opposed to sentiment. Her character brings a fresh layer to the class divide that dominates the season.

Stepping into the role is Michelle Mao, an actress who’s appeared in TV shows such as Goosebumps and Surfside Girls. Over the years, she has been steadily building a resume in youth-focused and genre television. Bridgerton marks her highest-profile role so far.

Posy Li (Isabella Wei)

Isabella Wei as Posy Liin Bridgerton Season 4

Posy is the younger, more impulsive Li sister, and it’s safe to say that she is nothing like her mother and sister. Lacking Rosamund’s discipline and possessing a certain emotional openness, she’s often overlooked by her mother. Her tendency to speak freely makes her unpredictable in a society built on restraint, often blurting out truths others work hard to hide.

Stepping into the role is Isabella Wei, who previously starred in Netflix’s 1899 and the 2024 reboot of The Crow. She is also a trained dancer, with performance work extending beyond screen acting.

Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey)

Jonathan Bailey as Anthony bridgerton in Bridgerton season 4

Anthony Bridgerton returns in this season, but more in a supporting capacity as the family’s stabilising force. Now married and less burdened by duty, he is more of a much-needed anchor than anything else. His role is especially needed, considering that Benedict stumbles through unfamiliar emotional terrain.

It is safe to say that Jonathan Bailey has become one of the show’s most recognisable breakout stars. Outside Bridgerton, he has starred in Broadchurch, Crashing, Leonardo, and Fellow Travelers, and has become even more prominent for his role in the major film Wicked.

Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton)

Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) in Bridgerton Season 4

Former beau of the ball, Colin Bridgerton, enters Season 4 as a married man. He’s pretty much just navigating life after the exposure of Lady Whistledown, AKA his wife. His arc now centers less on romantic pursuit and more on consequences, loyalty, and public scrutiny.

Luke Newton has appeared in series such as The Lodge and films, including Lake Placid: Legacy. Bridgerton remains his most sustained role, spanning all four seasons. He leads the cast of the upcoming sci-fi movie White Mars alongside Lucy Hale.

Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan)

Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan)

After the events of the last season, Penelope Bridgerton’s secret life is no longer… well, a secret. With her identity as Lady Whistledown dramatically revealed, she’s forced to decide how to operate in a world that knows exactly how much influence she wields. No longer a hidden observer, she metamorphoses into a visible power player.

Outside her role in Bridgerton, Nicola Coughlan is best known for playing Clare Devlin in Derry Girls. There is also her work in the 2024 series Big Mood. Overall, the actress has built a strong stage career and a voice-acting resume.

Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie)

Eloise Bridgerton as Claudia Jessie in Bridgerton Season 4

Eloise has no doubt had a rocky couple of seasons, and that’s not about to stop anytime soon. She remains resistant to the expectations placed on her, though a few cracks have begun to present themselves. Season 4 is rather on-brand for her; she’s pretty much questioning whether rebellion requires distance or deeper engagement with the system she despises.

Claudia Jessie has appeared in series including Dixi, Line of Duty, Vanity Fair, and Defending the Guilty. However, Bridgerton introduced her to a global audience. She starred in the 2025 miniseries Toxic Town alongside Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood, and Robert Carlyle.

Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd)

Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) in Bridgerton

Francesca Stirling, the quieter sister, continues her storyline after marrying John Stirling (Victor Alli). Her arc unfolds without a spotlight, but it lays the foundation for future emotional upheaval rather than instant drama.

Hannah Dodd replaced Ruby Stokes in the role and has also appeared in Find Me in Paris, Anatomy of a Scandal, Enola Holmes 2, and Eternals.

John Stirling (Victor Alli)

John Stirling remains Francesca’s reserved and introspective husband. His presence feels transitional, designed to shape what comes next rather than resolve it. Victor Alli has appeared in films such as Belfast and series including Gangs of London.

Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza)

Michaela Stirling returns following her introduction at the end of Season 3. This establishes a long-term emotional arc that challenges traditional romantic structures in the Bridgerton world. Masali Baduza has appeared in Noughts + Crosses and other British television productions, with Bridgerton marking her most prominent international role.

Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh)

Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) in Bridgerton

Lady Danbury remains the Ton’s most strategic presence, adapting quickly to the new reality created by Whistledown’s exposure. She understands power better than most and wastes none of it. Adjoa Andoh has an extensive career across stage and screen, with roles in Doctor Who, Invictus, and Line of Duty, as well as acclaimed theatre work.

Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell)

Violet Bridgerton remains the emotional core of the family, shifting from matchmaker to witness as her children redefine their paths. You probably recognize Ruth Gemmell from her roles in Primeval, EastEnders, and Fever Pitch, and from her reprisal in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel)

Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) in Bridgerton

Queen Charlotte returns with authority intact, and perhaps some more of those fascinating wigs. This time around, she’s apparently allowing Whistledown to continue writing not out of mercy, but control. Her presence reinforces the power: the Ton always answers to the crown. Golda Rosheuvel has appeared in Lady Macbeth, Silent Witness, Doctor Who, and led the Bridgerton prequel Queen Charlotte.

Watch these fascinating characters come to life in Bridgerton Season 4 on Netflix.
