Decades later, and it still has to be The Sixth Sense for me. I was way too young to watch such a scary movie… ok, more like a tween, but the premise was so downright creepy it disturbed me for days. That twist made so much sense, yet it was brilliantly hidden. As long as you didn’t know there was an upcoming twist, it would be hard to see that arc coming. Sure, there are subtle hints here and there, but the way I watch movies I didn’t see it coming. I’m a bit of an emotional viewer, so little things like how Malcolm and his wife weren’t particularly talking flew over my head. I simply chalked it up to marital problems.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m an emotional viewer, so I was too busy empathizing with the characters to notice much. There I was feeling sad for Malcolm and his turbulent marriage, not to mention him having to deal with this kid with a creepy gift. If anything, I thought the kid was dead, so color me surprised when things turned out the way they did.
